Kings 2, Golden Knights 3

Third Period
20:00 – Final 20 minutes from Arizona has kicked off!
19:47 – LAK Goal – Samuel Fagemo, who has been around the puck all game long, gets rewarded here 17 seconds into the third period. 2-1.
17:16 – Hyland heads to the box for what we believe is hooking, a very delayed arm in the air from the official.
14:14 – VGK Goal – D’Amato controls the puck around the goal frame and hits a trailing Pearson, who slots calmly into an open net. 3-1 Golden Knights.
12:20 – Fagemo nearly doubles his account, as he flies by Korczak and darts through the crease, but he can’t quite slide the puck around Lindbom. 68 in white continues to be quite noticeable today.
10:49 – LAK Goal – Martin Chromiak pulls the Kings back to within a goal, as he redirects a Jordan Spence shot from the right point. 3-2 game with 9:11 on the clock.
7:11 – Good offensive zone time from the Kings. Jordan Spence, who has several shot attempts today, and this weekend, gets one mostly through, puck skitters around in the crease, but Kings can’t get it to go.
4:24 – Elbowing is called against Dean and the Kings will get a late opportunity on the man advantage.
3:08 – Pair of one-timers from Arthur Kaliyev. First sizzles wide, second was gobbled up by Lindbom. Clear focus on that PP was to get 34 involved.
1:15 – Timeout, Kings.
0:00 – FINAL – Kings fall 3-2 to Vegas and finish the 2021 Rookie Faceoff with a 2-1-0 record.

Second Period
20:00 – Back in action here for the second, in search of the morning’s first goal.
16:25 – New period, same penalty story. Fagemo is called for his second of the game, and the Kings head to their fourth kill of the day.
14:10 – Good little chance off the rush from Fagemo and Kupari, resulting in a backhanded shot by the latter, that is turned aside. Still looking for that first one!
8:43 – VGK Goal – Give and go entering the offensive zone, Rondbjerg drives the net and gets a deflection, over Parik and in. 1-0 Golden Knights, midway through the second.
8:08 – VGK Goal – Jack Dugan makes it two goals in 35 seconds, as he bangs home a rebound in front of Parik. Just like that, it’s 2-0.

6:58 – Five right-hand shots on the top PP unit for the Kings. Durzi – Madden – Fagemo – Kupari – Dudas. Good puck movement from that unit.
5:25 – UPDATE – Quinton Byfield will not return to today’s game. Day-to-day with an upper body injury is the official designation.
4:10 – Good shift with five guys on either AHL contracts or camp invites. Hyland has flashed a bit for me today in his first game of the tournament.
0:00 – Kings turned it up a bit in the final five or so minutes of that period. Had some offensive-zone pressure, some pucks in and around the crease that squeaked through one way or the other, but not in the way of the net. 2-0 VGK after 40.

First Period
20:00 – One more time in Arizona! Kings and Golden Knights are underway from the house that Shane Doan built.
18:56 – Byfield wins a puck below the goal line and feeds Kaliyev in front, but the big winger was just a bit too tight in on net to get the shot up. Good early look though.
18:25 – McNelly and Primeau drop the gloves early. More of a wrestling match than a fight for most of it, but McNelly gets the final shot in as the officials come into to break it up. McNelly gets an extra two for LAK, PK incoming.
15:41 – Another Kings minor, this on Fagemo for hooking in the neutral zone.
12:22 – Kings 2-of-2 on the penalty kill early. Arthur Kaliyev a new addition to that unit today, had a good clearance and won a puck battle at the other end to rag a few seconds.
10:51 – Penalty parade here in the first nine minutes and change, now it’s Byfield for holding.
8:19 – Kings an early 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. No official totals for Lukas Parik but think he’s well into double digits in saves already, several sharp stops early for the Czech Republic native.
4:38 – First power-play chance here for the Kings. Dudas gets a decent look off the delayed call, hold and fires on the backhand, but it doesn’t go.
2:02 – Good shift by the fourth line. Morrison forces a turnover in the offensive zone, Pavlychev gets to the net but his effort finds the crossbar and bounces out.
0:00 – 0-0 through one period, but a much more eventful 0-0 than last night.

Projected Kings Lineup
Madden – Kupari – Fagemo
Chromiak – Byfield – Kaliyev
Pavlychev – Pinelli – Dudas
Morrison – Hyland – Kemp

Phillips – Durzi
McNelly – Spence
Robinson – Kosior

Parik
Ingham
